SIR MICHAEL PARKINSON TROPHY CHARITY CRICKET EVENT
Every season Reg Bartley XI contest a charity cricket match with SCG XI to support and raise money for the Royal Institute for Deaf & Blind Children (RIDBC). The clubs Hon.President Sir Michael Parkinson CBE is Ambassador and active supporter for the RIDBC so it is fitting that the charity match is played in his honour. Sir Michael has supported the RIDBC for over 30 years and displayed huge genererosity by attending the inaugural match in 2015 as guest of honour at the awards ceremony.
In it’s first year the event raised $2000 for the RIDBC, this was spectacularly beaten in 2016 as we raised over $10,000 thanks to the efforts and hard work of all involved. However, like all charity events, we are looking to improve on this year on year as the event grows in size and stature.
This annual event is also a great opportunity for the club to build relationships with the local community and businesses, highlighted by the support of local bottle shop, Elizabeth Bay Cellars and Tender Gourmet Butchery in Bondi Junction. We have also received generous support from Robert Oatley Wine and Coles.
For more information or if you would like to get involved with this amazing event to sponsor, donate, organise or simply help out on the day please feel free to get in touch with one of our event committee members via the club - Simon B, James, Kelly, Simon C and Rob would love to tell you more about the day!
FOR THE LOVE OF CRICKET 2016
2016 Sir Michael Parkinson Trophy Charity Cricket event was held on Sunday 14th February and aptly named "For the Love of Cricket". It was another fantastic day of cricket in clubs history, as not only did guys put on a splendid performance in the field to claim the coveted trophy from the SCG XI but the day also raised in excess of $10,000 for the Royal Institute for Deaf & Blind Children. Well done to all involved and especially to our primary sponsors for the day - Elizabeth Bay Cellars and Robert Oatley Wine for supplying the drinks and Pat Rundell from the Tender Gourmet Butchery for supplying some delicious snags for the sausage sizzle.
INAUGURAL SIR MICHAEL PARKINSON TROPHY 2015
The inaugural Sir Michael Parkinson Trophy Charity Cricket event was held on a beautiful sunny day in February complete with sausage sizzle, dinks bar and bouncy castle for the kids. However, the highlight of the day was when Sir Michael himself appeared in the late afternoon sun to catch the final innings and see the SCG XI take the first victory in an exciting finale. Sir Michael was also guest of honour at the presentation ceremony and spent time chatting with the players and supporters after the game. The day raised over $2,000 for Royal Institute for Deaf & Blind Children and set the perfect tone of what will be a long standing event and association with both the RIDBC and the SCG XI.
